Are you travelling to Dalton Park via the A19/A182? We would like to advise you that the highway next to Dalton Park is undergoing roadworks until Spring 2025 to improve traffic flow and enhance capacity at the A19 / A182 junction, to facilitate commercial development in the local area.
Please note, essential carriageway resurfacing on the Northbound Carriageway between B1285 Murton and A1018 Ryhope Spur Interchanges.
The works are planned to start on Sunday 18th August 2024 for a duration of 2 weeks. During this period, the A19 northbound carriageway will be closed to traffic between A182 Cold Hesledon Interchange and B1404 Seaton Lane Interchange each night between 8pm and 6am, except Saturdays.
The diversion will be signed via B1285 and B1404 to rejoin the A19 (T) at B1404 Seaton Lane northbound entry slip road.
Durham County Council are managing this project, which will create up to 2,000 jobs. The roadworks will improve traffic issues at the traffic signals next to the centre, as well as the flow and journey times.
What work will be completed?
The roundabouts on each side of the A19 will be removed and converted into traffic light signaled junctions, with a dedicated crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. The current traffic lanes on the A182 bridge will be increased, with widening also occurring on approaches to the junction. A new standalone cycle / footbridge spanning the A19 will be developed as part of these works.
