Guest Blog | What’s in my beach bag?

With the summer just in sight, and some amazing weather lately to get us thinking ahead to sunny days and visits to the beach, I’ve been along to the mall to see what pieces you need in your beach bag.

Sunscreen is an absolute essential. It might look overcast but don’t be deceived, those harmful rays can still get through so make sure you’re fully stocked up. M&S Outlet have a selection of sunscreen to suit your needs, from SPF 15 up to SPF 50 and prices as low as £8.50. For face SPF, I swear by The Body Shop’s Skin Defence Multi-Protection essence. This lightweight product glides on, doubles up as an excellent primer if you’re applying any makeup on top, and is SPF 50 PA++++. At £21 for 60ml or £17 for 40ml, it’ll see you through the summer and don’t forget to treat yourself to some post-beach shower products, something tropical to continue the theme!

In Radley you’ll find sunglasses for the ladies so you can sit and soak up a new book in style.

I always pack a cover up in my bag. The breeze at the coast can be a bit cooler than expected and it’s good to avoid the overhead sun in the middle off the day. For this I recommend a lightweight shirt from GAP, you can layer it over a swimsuit and pair with some Levi shorts for effortless beach to bar wear. Even better, selected shirts have 40% off in store.

If a shirt and short combo isn’t what you’re looking for, I spotted some light kaftans for £14.99 in Sports Direct from Soul Cal. In an array of colours from the neon orange, to bright pink, to white; these are easy to roll up and pop on after you hop out the pool, or have been for a paddle in the sea.

Don’t wanna mix your toiletries with any pesky sand? No worries, Next have some really sweet multi-purpose bags in store. A bold watermelon for £10 or a straw and orange fringing with ‘Holi-yay’ printed across the front for £12. Both could work well as a nice evening clutch bag, or a makeup bag too. I’ve got my eye on holi-yay myself.

If you’re lucky, when you’re browsing in Next, you may also find a great oversized beach hat, think those straw hat vibes but look cooler for less with prices from £7. Wanting more selection to browse; visit new store, Fat Face.

Swimwear should be in your beach bag, ready to pop into one of those colourful fronted huts to change before dipping into the sea. Whether you’re looking for a swimsuit, or bikini set, there’s one to suit you on the mall. From Next, to Fat Face, or Adidas and Sports Direct for something a little sportier I spotted a selection when I was browsing.

There was a lovely on trend leaf print Soul Cal bikini set in Sports Direct with separates for £7 and a matching circle beach towel too. Whether you’ve got a beach holiday planned or not, this is a set I’m keen to pick up. Could even be perfect for a spa break.

If you’re a keen adventurer, I also spotted a snorkel set from £12 if you’re feeling like exploring a little further out in the ocean.

Fake the tan this summer with St Moriz tanning sets from £10 in Beauty Outlet. With two tanning products and a handy mitt, you’ll be bronzed and streak free in no time.

I don’t know about you, but for me, nothing says summer more than a glow. So make sure you’ve checked out the highlights and bronzers in Beauty Outlet too; Glowcomotion from W7 is a favourite of mine, and a little goes a long way. It’s a bargain at £3.99. If you’re wanting to have a few shades to choose from, try ‘Life’s A Beach’ for a champagne shimmer, pink shimmer and a bronze shade too.
